  Landfill Gas Monitoring

A quarterly gas monitoring program has been in effect at the Williamson County Landfill since Waste Management began operating it. Twenty-two gas probes are placed around the perimeter of the landfill to detect the potential presence of landfill gas migration.

    Gas Collection and Extraction

  • In 2006, Waste Management voluntarily installed a gas collection and extraction system at the Williamson County Landfill designed to achieve the following:

    1. Reduce the potential for off-site landfill gas migration
    2. Minimize passive landfill gas emissions
    3. Control potential landfill odors

Waste Management installed gas extraction wells into deposited wastes to collect landfill gases generated by decomposing waste. The gases are removed via a central, high-temperature flare, which has no adverse impact on public health or safety.
